A long while ago the girls gave me a thing to hook on the deck rail that had two arms for holding birdfeeders, do-dads, or what=have-you. Well we decided to take it down from the deck and moved it over to fit it on the side of the former shooting table that I now have in front of my greenhouse. We put the hummingbird feeders back on it and stood there admiring it with pats on the back.
I had noticed earlier that there were several Bluebirds buzzing around the yard. Finally I told Dan we needed to leave, that I thot the birds were waiting for us to go. So we went in to make breakfast. (we were doing our outside stuff before it got too hot).
We looked out the window and discovered the Bluebirds were scoping out the Williamsburg nesting bottle we’d hung up a few months ago.
I must say we had a wonderful time eating our breakfast on the deck and watching the pair prepare their little love nest. They’d go zooming up to the roof where they were cleaning out pine straw from our gutter. Then they zoomed back straight into the bottle with no hesitation; it’s a wonder they didn’t hit the back wall, they went in so fast! And the cooing and talking they did… he would sit on the very tip-top of the deck bracket we’d just moved, keeping guard and chatting to her while she arranged and rearranged her materials.
I took some video but it’s rather boring with long spurts of non-activity except for the shaking and moving of pine straw, sticks, and what have you that were sticking out of the hole and being pulled back and forth.
We can only surmise that when we moved the deck thing it created the perfect environment for the happy couple!
