Gosh! Wasn’t it just yesterday that I was walking the halls of the hospital, waiting for the reluctant angel to arrive? Upside down, or bass-ackwards, whatever it was; it seemed like the longest wait. And then she was there. Out of the blue the room had another little being in it.
We used the warm water, like an overgrown fish tank it had clear sides. I couldn’t hold her; me and doc had issues to deal with, but I could see her bright eyes shining in the dimly lit room. My first born child was here. It brings me to tears to remember the wonder of that first moment.
She was so quiet and curious, looking around at everything, just the best little person in the world. She still is.
Melissa, whose name means “as sweet as the honey of the bee” is just exactly that. She is one of the sweetest people anyone could have the privilege to know. She is sweet, but never forget the bee’s stinger. When this lovely young woman is on a mission her loyalty and gumption will enable her a force to be reckoned with. How else has she been able to break ground in so many areas in so short a time?!
And I had the honor to be her mom; for better or worse God entrusted this angel into my custody. I tried to give her all the tools that she would need to face the world. I think I did ok. Melissa has been a pioneer in her chosen fields, has paved new paths to take her to new places full of new and interesting people and cultures. I could not be more proud of her.
