I've heard that it's really hard to hold a poinsettia over from year to year. Usually I try and after a while, throw it away. This year is different. I moved my poinsettia to the greenhouse after we got that all straightened out and it spent the summer in there. They love heat so I guess it worked out well. When it started turning cold I brought all the plants inside the house from the greenhouse (we don't have heat installed). It, and several others are sitting in the sun in my giant kitchen window. The geranium and herbs are in the dining room to catch the morning sun.
This morning I turned the poinsettia around so it wouldn't lean over seeking the light. And lo, and behold, the little new leaves that are putting out are red! I couldn't believe it! Looks like I'm gonna have a "grow your own" poinsettia for Christmas! Who knew?!
And just to let you know, my big pot with Thanksgiving & Christmas cactus is in full bloom now with both orange and deep pink blossoms!
