It was 28° this morning when I took Abby out. Most mornings the deck is frosty and I can't walk very far across the potentially slippery boards. Abby was so funny yesterday - she was slipping on the deck. I think she liked it too! She grabbed one of her favorite nature toys, a Magnolia seed pod cluster and started tossing it around. Then she bounded up on the deck and started skidding! But then, instead of being a little cautious, she ran in the other direction and skidded again...she did this over and over! I thought I'd fall out from laughing.
Needless to say, it's cold outside in between lovely warm days that make the flowers start to bloom. I spied a yellow thing across the yard and grabbing my camera headed out to capture the first actual Daffodil of the season! Poor Danny ended up having to get on the ground to get this photo because its little head was drooping downward.
Then I happened to take a look at the Camellia bush that is now taller than I am. We had planted that thing by the Iris bed "just temporarily" until we could decide where to plant it permanently. I think it is petty much permanent now.
I knew there were flowers on it before, because last week Danny had surprised me with one in a glass bottle. Isn't this one lovely with its mixture of white on the red? I love it! I wonder how long any of these will last? The really cold weather is edging closer and closer as I write.
