A Special Normal Day Out

We had our annual special day yesterday. Of course it began like usual for me. First the cat whines at the door to be let in, which makes me wiggle Danny just enough as I get out of bed for him to start snoring. By the time I get back to bed, or attempt to go back to bed, I’m wide awake.

So I go on out to the office to do a few things in the quietness of early dawn. In a couple of hours I hear Dan opening the door, a cup of coffee and cup of hot chocolate in hand. Isn’t he sweet?!

After he does a few things from his desk in the office he goes back in and starts breakfast. I follow and do the shower. By the time all this is finished it’s 10am and we’re heading down the driveway. Our driveway is now lined with small 4-5 foot Rose of Sharon trees on both sides. We are still getting used to the newness and try to visualize them next summer in bloom. We can’t wait to see the butterflies and hummingbirds!

First we stop by the golf cart place to pick up a tool Dan wants to borrow. I was able to chain 2 more necklace chains for the Senior Center before he got back! Heading to Great Bridge we caught the bridge and were close enough to enjoy watching the behemoth come down in slow motion, a counterweight miracle.
Even with all that traffic we turned left after the bridge to one of our favorite thrift stores were I found some more great buys on yarn and Dan bought a Porter Saw for $6. Now if he only had an $80 battery. Guess it’ll take a while longer to actually use it.

We’ve decided to finally check out where Bill’s Flea Market moved (in Portlock) after they burned to the ground last year. It wasn’t all that before. Now that we have seen them, we now know they are even less than they were. So the curiosity of wondering about poor ol’ Bill is over. We won’t go back or ever miss them again.

We’re still feeling peppy so we run down George Washington Highway to see if the thrift store Mom and I visited years ago is still there. It is! This one is much better. They had tons of bags, but sadly not one Similac diaper bag (I’m always on the lookout – they sell well). Again we leave empty-handed.

On the way we had spied a thrift store on the other side of the road. We stopped on our way back out. The first thing I see is a big container full of yarn, knitting needles, ribbon, etc. The woman says she’ll make me a deal on the 50¢ each yarn. We plow through it all, coming away with 22 skeins for only $10 (my offer to eliminate their confusion at the register). I can see now how my winter time will be filled!

We’re about worn out by now and it’s 2:30. Lunch is next and Dan’s feeling “Olive Garden.” Back at Greenbrier we fill our pie-holes with tons of Italian and bring the rest home for the 7:30 snack (Dan’s going to turn into calamari).

We’re watering the new trees when Bro shows up with his little dog. That crazy dog – she loved the canna lilies, taking great flying leaps to land in the middle of them. The lilies, which are starting to die down, got the worse end of it, Lucy was smiling, I swear she was. It was all too funny; I wish I’d had my camera!
Finally it’s dark, finally the pjs are on and the remote control has stopped on the “tank” channel again. I’m learning so much about The Abram Tank and the Panzers. What ever good gal should know! But it’s his birthday so why not?! And he took me out for my 18th wedding anniversary – who knew this would be the one to last forever?! It’s all good, and you never know when you will need a tank detail for conversation!
