We all know that it’s rained so much lately that the ground is absolutely saturated. You can barely walk on any part of just about anybody’s lawn; we are no exception. At a certain point in the journey up the driveway we have a spot where water is particularly fond of collecting. It stays very wet on both sides of the drive in that area long after the rest of the yard has dried up. And we have a couple of matching holes in the drive in direct association with that wet area of the yard.
I felt rather bad for Tech Guy. Hubster was very upset to put it mildly, probably because every time someone runs off the drive he has to go down and “pat it back into place.” (One time the drive had been fixed only 5 minutes before the next unheeding traveler came down one side and up the other).
This guy must have never shot pool, or been a geometry wiz because he kept his front wheels turned at a sharp angle when trying to dislodge himself. Hubster and I watched from the house at his feeble attempts after calling Cox to report the matter. Our man in the street also phoned in his dilemma and soon a co-worker showed up with a rope and 4-wheel drive.
After being freed from the muddy trap Tech Guy kicked and stomped a few clods back into place as best he could, wiped mud from his knee that had seen way too much action from being on the ground, and walked up to the house to do the job he’d come for with “little booties” in hand.
He wouldn’t drive up, but walked back and forth, carrying his tools, even ladders up to the house. Dan finally asked him why he didn’t just drive up and was told something about his being superstitious. I told Dan I was thinking about asking if I could go bring the truck up . Dan later told me to look at the now vacant drive. No Tech Guy wasn’t gone, but Dan had driven the truck up to the parking lot himself. I know the young man must have been relieved. His day had already included an irate customer, an irate co-worker, and an irate supervisor who also showed up.
Tech Guy was here about 3 hours all together. When everything was done we wished him an improved day and brighter tomorrow. Plus my cable is working properly now.
MORAL OF THE STORY: Even if it’s not wet stay on the driveway!!!
