Happy Birthday to Me

I had a lovely birthday on Thursday. Dan and I spent the day out, getting rid of cabin-fever in the process. We really didn’t do anything much different than we usually do. After starting the day with breakfast at Eddy’s Cafe, we went to a few thrift stores looking for goodies we couldn’t ignore. Around noon we thought about having lunch somewhere nice, like Olive Garden, but decided we were still full from the morning meal. About 2pm we opted instead for a turkey salad cold plate at Mom’s Kitchen on Holland Road. We never did miss not eating at Olive Garden at all because we ended up so full that we didn’t do supper later that night.

Pretty much for supper we went over to Mom and Dad’s to have the delicious chocolate birthday cake that Mom made for me. They both laughed at how the 6 layer wonder came out a little more lopsided than they had intended. But Big Mama always side that if a cake was on the ugly side, then it was a supremely great cake. This one was no exception! And with homemade icing to boot!!

As it is with the way of gifts these days there were few boxes to open, but I was wonderfully surprised at my cards laden with goodies inside. Monetary gifts are always welcome and gift cards to Barnes & Noble will always be in style, in my humble opinion.

I missed having my girls around, but circumstances warrant that it’s not always to be; they have full lives going full steam ahead these days. My greatest gift is knowing that I raised two wonderful daughters who are outstanding adults.
