Vacation 2010 Day 1

We didn't get off until 10am with a quick stop by the folks' house to drop off some food items. Instead of 64 the way AAA suggested we took ourselves thru NC. A quick lunch at Hardees so Hubster could try out the new chicken strips and we were off again.

For the most part, things are uneventful, but we did hit pockets of high wind and heavy rain, which was really freaky; lots of leaves and small branches fell all over the road.  When we looked back I think we skirted the really bad stuff. You can see the view from my side mirror. Intermittently the sun would shine, and I kept watching for the mountains to appear. Finally they showed up and all was right with the world.

We did 8 hours today, ending up outside of Ashville. Supper was at Waffle House across the road. We walked over; good after sitting all day. I guess we needed the exercise even more after having steak and eggs (him) and pork chop and eggs (moi).

Tomorrow we’re going to take some back roads and hopefully stop off to see Andrew Jackson’s home; it looks really cool from the Google Earth and besides, it’s just off interstate 40. From there heading towards Knoxville and Nashville or at least around it, to get closer to Springfield MO. The home of the real Bass Pro Shop with the flying geese and indoor salon and McDonalds. Doesn’t everyone want to go there?!
