Vacation 2010 Day 2

Long day again. Started early with continental breakfast of a bun and apple juice and the promise of better later. We weren’t on the road 20 minutes when, what’s that? A hot air balloon! Who knew? My pictures were so blurry, finding that little thing in the sky with the ‘shake’ setting on!

I took pictures while we road. You can see leftover debris from the winds the day before on the side of the road in some pics. You see the strangest things in TN/KY. Some of the coolest things we saw were three big Nascar racing teams on their way to the next big race.  Do you see our car reflected behind the Hendrick’s Team Truck?! We always wanted to be part of something big!!

We headed diagonally, cutting corners and omitting Nashville altogether with a dash around the outside that gave us the opportunity to stop by “The Heritage,” home of our 7th President, Andrew Jackson. It was only about 98 degrees out; and after seeing everything in the air conditioned museum part we walked to the house itself. Under renovations in the front due to flooding, we saw what we could of a beautiful period home of early 1800s. I had to get a golf cart to take me back; one of the few times I really enjoyed doing so…it was SO hot out! Dan took the photos here.

We eventually ran into storms, for a long time we just watched big black clouds go by with rain streaks coming down in other places. But luck ran out as we approached Padukah KY, our resting place for the night. As we came off the ramp the bottom fell out and we ducked into a parking lot to wait before looking for our motel. Thinking it was over we headed down the road; then the big storm hit!

We barely made it into another parking lot before hail started hitting hard. We drove to the back of a building and hoped it would offer some sheltering wind-break. Dan was flipping out thinking we were being dinged and banged so much on the first real trip for his beloved Mustang. OMG! I finally just told him to shut it and wait it out – it was dinging everybody. Talk about a confined area!!

Our feathers ‘ruffled from the moment the sun came out, we went around the corner to find the right motel and got a room. No, the blessed car is still intact and he took me out to dinner to heal our wounds. We brought back doggie boxes of fried fish (his) and chicken parmesean pasta (me), which will serve us well tomorrow night. I’m sure we’re going to be too tired to dine out tomorrow.

We lost an hour today. Instead of it being 10pm now, it’s OMG! 11pm my time! For now I’m crashing my old tired, full self into my little welcomed bed. We haven’t even figured out which way we’re going tomorrow. All I know is we’ll be heading west somewhere!!

More photos when I get somewhere to upload them.
