The Backwards Hat

I thought I'd try doing a hat I saw in an email. It was Lion Brand® Pattern Number: L0079AD  Don’t think for a minute that my hat ended up looking like the pattern said.

HAT - Ch 26.
Row 1: Work an sc in the 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across – 25 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, working in back loops only, sc in each sc across.
Repeat Row 2 until piece measures about 19 in. (48.5 cm) from beginning. Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through ends of rows along one long edge and pull to gather for top of Hat. Knot securely.

Sounded simple enough. Because I’ve always make a tight stitch, I chained 55 and still ended up with a baby hat! (Why I stay away from patterns)  I doubt I’ll ever do one correctly, but I guess ‘my’ way is OK, since the hat police will never be looking for me)!

What attracted me to this pattern is that it started at the opening and worked back to the top of the hat! (Or that’s how I interpreted it). I did a long chain, joined it together to make a circle, and started doing single stitches round and round. When I got into the upper turquoise part I did reductions up to the top. I changed to a tiny hook when I got real close up there. It looked real good because the stitches stayed in perspective!

Right or wrong doesn’t really matter. I like how it turned out. It worked up real fast, and was an easy mobile project to take with me.
