Lot of stuff happening today. Melissa and Lindsey both were home over the weekend for Danny's birthday. They think so much of him.
At breakfast, which we ate on the deck, we discussed how we wanted the holiday season to go. I think the better part of the Thanksgiving part is that we will do our own Thanksgiving here; and that we see no problem whatsoever with Randy & Lynne inviting and having Thanksgiving with their parents. But our family is growing and we're going to start making that transition now. And the girls can leave a little earlier for their dinner at their dad's house. It's all good.
Then for Christmas I have always wanted to do brunch instead of lunch. I think it would be really neat to do and definitely different. During the last few years the Jordan-Frazier family switched to opening gifts on Christmas Eve, thereby sparing us the hectic race to finish up gifts, get dressed and get the Christmas dinner in the oven in time before the rest of the family got here.
Changing our gift opening time has opened up new possibilities that we have mulled over for a good while: by having brunch we eat earlier in the day. Randy & Lynne still go to her folks for big dinner, the girls still go to their Dad's for big dinner, so no one has to eat 2 big dinners. Mom & Dad and me and Danny still eat our quiet little Christmas Supper in peace and quiet later that evening while everyone is gone. Danny doesn't have to prepare BIG dinner for 8, instead we'll make a smaller dinner for 4. So the only difference is that the 4 late diners will have to eat whatever to tide us over during the afternoon siesta before supper.
Yeah, I know. We don't all 8 get to eat together on that particular day, but hey, it's not like we don't live really close by and get together every Friday night! All in all, I think it's worth considering and a very viable plan.
Back to Sunday: I went to Cava Church for the 2nd time. I really like it there, it's small, they're friendly, they use King James Bibles, and the sermons, so far, are like through the Bible studies. That I really like! You can do a lot with a smaller group and I look forward to going there again next week.
This afternoon everyone came over for Danny's birthday. We made Coconut Cake for him. Since he always asks for just a card he got lots of cards. I'd given him his favorite eclairs on Wednesday, and he got money and a new insulated reversible vest for working in. Pretty good.
The girls left; Lindsey called to say she'd planned to cut grass when she got home but it was cut when she got home. The young boy she hired a few weeks ago and cut it. All she had to do was go pay him. Missy hasn't called yet, but I'm sure she will soon.
Life is good.
