Happy Momma’s Day 2009

It was happy, but then it wasn’t. Melissa couldn’t make it down because she’s sick. So we really missed her a lot. Rob even stayed home from visiting his mother for Mother’s Day so he would be there to take care of our little Missy. Isn’t he the best!? It’s hard to be apart, knowing someone you love so much is hurting. I hated to not be there myself.

I couldn’t go to her either, because I got those terrible cramps all weekend, starting about 4am early Saturday morning. Not sure what started it, other than I really enjoyed quite a few delights at Friday evenings Happy Hour. It was all so GOOD! I’m on the high side of it now so hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Hopefully Melissa will be feeling better in time to come home for the Pungo Strawberry Festival on May 23-24. She’s always loved going to that and I know she’s aiming to try this year too!

Anyway, Mother’s Day saw me going to enjoy church with Mom and Dad even though Danny had started feeling icky and didn’t go. He recovered much faster than me and was up and about by the time I got home and was finishing up with the lovely BBQ chicken quarters he’d grilled on the deck. Lindsey had already arrived and the two of them were “chillin’” out back under the umbrella, keeping an eye on that chicken!

She brought me a hanging basket kit on behalf of herself and Melissa. We are waiting until Melissa comes to put it together. I can’t wait!
After Mom and Dad changed clothes they came over and we all sat down for a super lunch of Danny’s chicken, homemade potato salad and his famous baked beans (which I’m sure caused my ‘relapse’ later that night). Mom brought over her key-lime like cream pie which was so rich you only needed a spoonful at a time!

After we ate Mom opened my paltery offerings, which pale in comparison for all she’s ever done for me over a lifetime. How do you ever really say thank you?!! But I tried in my simple way with a homemade card, a wooden hummingbird back-scratcher (which she seemed to be needing and using at the time), and a lovingly hand crocheted by moi kitchen set with 4 coasters, a washcloth/pot grabber, and a hot-pad.  I made them myself at work and must have pulled out more thread than ever trying to get things just right. The final gift was a surprise fern that I’d gotten the hint that she’d been wanting one, but just hadn’t outsourced it yet. To the rescue, it was large, green and beautifully filled with lots of new curling fronds. Momma liked it too!

All in all, it was a good day. Other than the crappy timing for a few of us with feeling puny, for the most part we have our health; and we have each other no matter how far apart we are, and if not together in body we were certainly together in spirit, for sure. And we know our day was filled with love!
