Danny and I took Mom on an excursion to see the Norfolk Botanical Gardens (AKA Azalea Gardens) today. It was a great day to go, with near perfect weather. We’ve been having really hot days lately and I was pleased to discover that my chosen day would see no more than 72°. It was beautiful, even if it was a little windy and cool inside the wooded parts. I took my camera and you can see the photos on the home site link up top or look in the 2009 photos. The trolley tour took about 30 minutes and as Mom said, that was just perfect, not too long as to become bored with it.

Today they were having the WPA Memorial Dedication service in honor of the 200 or so African-Americans who cleared out the first 30 acres of woods and marsh of what would later become one of the premier gardens on the East coast. Needless to say there were a lot of visitors, but they were totally in a different area and didn’t affect our tour one bit.
The hardest part of the day was deciding where to eat lunch. I suggested we head up Military Highway to the Chinese Buffet we used to go to. It was still there, and had food galore! Mom and Danny are Chinese eating fools, they love it so much and would eat it every time they go out if they could! With a double-whammy like that how could I refuse?! We ate until we were stuffed and then made a mad dash for home.
It was at least a 9 out of 10 for the whole adventure! Now, where is that zoo?!
