I think we had a simple Fourth of July this week. At least it ended up that way. The beginning was simple too. It was just the middle part that got a little bit complicated.
My day started with my early morning walk, pleasant and peaceful and hot as always. If I'm a tad late in getting outdoors then it gets hotter. Wednesday was sufficient. A quick shower afterwards, then breakfast, and I'm ready to work on my store.
The phone rings and everything changed. We were gonna have a July 4th Get Together! A flurry of calls ensued as quick plans were made between the parties involved. My whole week was already skewed before and I haven't known what day it is ever since Hubster retired anyway. I thought I had a massage appointment around noon so we volunteered to pick up the chicken while we were out. That seemed simple enough.
At the appropriate time we headed out and he dropped me off at my appointment before going to the grocery store. BUT he didn't wait to see me inside the premises... which happened to be closed! E-gads! Now I'm running through the nearly empty parking lot, waving and hollering to no avail. He'd gone, mission-bound.
Now what? An hour plus sitting on the curb in the heat? No way. I start walking to find a phone. Now we don't both have a cell phone. We hardly use the one we have. So I found a phone and just prayed that he actually had the cell turned on. He did and had just turned in at the bank. He wasn't a happy camper, but he did come back for me. It was quiet in the truck for a while.
We went to the store which was packed with other late shoppers. This didn't help my situation....everything was my fault. But eventually we got back home with a little down time to recuperate and regroup before we headed across the street for an early supper with family and friends. It was all very nice in the end and worth every chaotic moment to get there!
Great idea, Mom!
