Cross-Stitch Crochet Stitch

As soon as I finished up that little baby hat I picked up my big ol' size N 9.00mm crochet hook and started going to town, I'm making a dark blue cowl neck scarf using the cross stitch I watched recently.

It works up pretty fast and I'm enjoying doing it, but really, I don't see a lot of impact on all that backwards movement of stitches. Because it takes 2 double-crochets to make each cross-stitch  the second one is always made in the hole you skipped over - making you go backwards. I don't know... maybe it's because my yarn is so dark that I'm not getting the full impact.

Of course, I'll give it another try! Like I said, it's a fun stitch that's easy to do and works up pretty fast. I don't use the large hook too much, but it seems perfect for this endeavor.
