The BBC Crochet Club at my church decided not to meet over the holidays. Our last gathering was at a Silent Auction we held at church on December 22. We raised $142 to give to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for Foreign Missions. We didn't do too bad when you consider it was a spur-of-the-moment event with little planning and even less advertising. Next time we will have our plans together a lot better. I consider this more of an experiment and in that respect we did pretty good.
The tables were full of crocheted hats and scarves made by our members. About half of the hats (for children and adults) were purchased; and all the ladies frilly potato chip scarves were! We had numbered the items along with matching red cups to hold the bids offered. After it was all over we checked each cup and awarded the item to the winning recipient.
Now that cold weather is really starting to kick in here in Tidewater, I'm hoping members will be working on a project or two at home on those days when going out just seems like a bad idea. And we'll still meet on Tuesday evenings, but sometimes those church rooms just can't get warm quick enough, especially when we get into late January into February. Maybe we're really going into Afghan Season. Everyone should know how to do those now, since our first dabbling with them last month. (We donated 10 to a local nursing home).
That sounds like a good idea...crochet afghans for donation, add hot chocolate and a good movie on TV and enjoy a great afternoon.
