I did it my way.... or our way, as the case may be. Back in the day I had a cousin who hosted a Christmas brunch at his house one year. Ever since that time I've always wanted to have brunch on Christmas day instead of a big meal like we usually do. FINALLY... this year it happened.
It was still a bit chaotic and I reckon you learn by doing. We got started later than we'd planned, which was OK... it wasn't like we had appointments or anything. (We're all getting a little slower than we used to be). We opened presents first and then ate. It ended up being more like 12:30 or 1 o'clock rather than 11:00 by the time we all sat down.
When we finally did the food was terrific! I had brought our professional grade waffle maker and was turning those babies out like no tomorrow. We had an awesome egg and sausage casserole to go along with the incredible cheesy potato casserole made by my lovely sister-in-law too. Danny just had to bring a couple dozen mini-muffins and a variety of fruit. And Mom's spiral ham hit the spot along with her biscuits.
We definitely put a hurtin' on all that food. Mom packed up the leftover waffles for the freezer (for a quick pop in the toaster oven later). Besides waffles, there really wasn't too much left over except maybe the ham, which was recommissioned to appear at the Happy Hour get-together on Friday evening (awesome ham, thanks Mom)!
At Happy Hour the neighbors celebrated Dad's upcoming birthday. We'll do that all again on Wednesday, Jan. 1, his actual birthday. By then Missy will be in town and we'll start Christmas and birthday all over again.
