Through the Bible

On a local BBN radio station they offer daily Bible reading starting January 1 with Genesis 1:1 and ending with the very last word of Revelation on December 31. It comes on every day at 3pm for about 15 minutes. This year will be my 14th time of reading the complete King James Version Bible. Once you get used to stopping what you're doing to open the Good Book, it really does become a habit. I hate to miss a day; I've been known to even get off of a lawn mower to go read! If I miss I have to catch up on my own.

A couple of years ago I decided I could do a whole year on my own (big mistake).... after two years I'm still working on completing that read through the Bible and am finally near the end of Jeremiah. For the one that started this year I'm reading 1st Samuel about Saul and David. So I've learned I can use the radio and complete it in one year or wing it and take three years! Which would you do?

I love reading the King James Version Bible. It used to be difficult, as people often say, with all those thee's and thou's, but once you get used to it, it all makes sense. Hearing those hard names of people and places helps; now when I read on my own I breeze through through them.

Each year something new jumps out at me that I'd not really noticed before. This year I'm seeing that God was "rising early" to teach or speak to His people, with no less than 11 instances of this phrase in Jeremiah. (Maybe I should start getting up earlier and just listen for Him).

One of my favorite Bible search sites is BibleGateway.com offering a variety of Bible versions, languages, and audio.

My poor original Bible - I wore the cover spine out and ended up putting duct tape on it to hold it together! Then I had to make a cover for it to hide the tape! Like who do you know that goes to church with duct tape on their Bible? I still have that one on my shelf, but reluctantly had to set it aside when I needed bigger print. I got my new one from a thrift store and love that one too now. (I never understood how someone could just toss a Bible, but some people don't even bother to look at them, it seems).

If your Bible is just collecting dust I encourage you to start investigating the words of advise within, (It's never too late to start). Ask God to help you if it seems hard. I've done that many times. One time I was struggling in Romans 7 where it says, "For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I." It was so confusing. I reread it 6 times before just stopping and asking Him to make it plain for me. And He did. It suddenly all made sense so I went back and started at Romans 1 again and ended up reading the entire book until 2am. I was afraid to stop because everything was falling into place. It was so cool though, to know that God had actually helped me out with something that small just because He cared.

With all the sadness my family has been in the midst of over the last few weeks it makes me wonder how people get along without God in their lives. There's not a day that goes by I don't think of Him. In hard times like these I have to rely on Him and trust that He will get me through whatever I face or wherever my journey is taking me. What's nice is knowing that He will do that for anyone who calls on Him... He's just waiting for you.
