Now We Know

Just for fun I was checking out some online newspapers @ Chronicling America today and thought I'd expand my search to my husband's last name. I haven't worked on his genealogy for ages since we found a then unknown cousin in Washington, NC a few years ago who had done an extensive family history.

I plugged in the name "Claude Jordan" because my husband is the fourth one to have that name, so I thought the odds were in my favor that I'd get lucky. Boy were they ever! I found this 1901 article about his great-grandfather!

The really awesome thing about this is that my husband still has that gold-headed cane mentioned in the article! When I first saw it 25 years ago I tried researching to see if we could find out anything to no avail. There was little online and my father-in-law didn't know much more than we did.

PS: That cousin we found was the first information my father-in-law had heard of since my husband's father only knew of his own father, but nothing more. That's when we discovered there had been four of them with the same name.
