Good News, Bad News

We noticed years ago that events come to us in groups and usually close to a holiday. As it turns out Memorial Day weekend is just around the corner and I think it counts as a legitimate holiday. That said, I have good news and bad news.

The good news is that I just heard from Melissa who was calling me on a borrowed phone from the Newark, NJ airport. Her phone batteries had long faded and so our conversation was limited. She sounded wonderful, excited and glad to be home. She won't be coming here until the June 3 weekend; it's graduation weekend at college and she has friends who are having special days. I can't wait to see her again, but for now it's enough to know she's safe on American soil.

The bad news part is that I got Melissa's call right after hanging up with my doctor with the verdict from the MRI had shown and was on the verge of tears when the phone rang. I actually thought it was the doc calling again. (If it can go wrong I'm at the top of the line). I have an abnormal acromion which is a bone in the shoulder region. They're usually curved up and mine is (of course) curved down. Add to that a small bone spur and a partial tear of a tendon and you get pain and a sling and an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon. At least that's what I've got.

This is SO frustrating. First I lose my hips and can't garden or jump up and down. Now my arm feels like it's coming out of socket and I can barely turn over in bed or move a pillow. If I get in a bad mood please forgive me. I do hurt often, even if I don't say so.

I went to my new job today and yesterday. I don't have to go tomorrow, Thursday, but will return on Friday. Today I used a laptop; I've never really used one before. It's a bit strange, I can't feel the keys as well, and they don't use real desks at work; they use tables like at the church and the fire station. So they are a little bit high for me. To reach the keyboard my feet don't reach the floor. Luckily I don't have to be there all day or my back would be really hurting. I guess I'll get use to it. And maybe I should get stock in ibuprofen!
Gotta rest, relax, and regroup ~ LJ
