Memorial Weekend

Since last Wednesday I worked on Friday about 5½ hours. That place is SO hot. That's the biggest problem. Guess I'll have to start wearing shorts. They have a small window air conditioner, but because it's next to someone they don't use it much. That person left work early Friday and STILL they didn't turn it on. What a bummer. The lady I'm working for says I'm doing terrific though, so that's cool. Seems like it's been so long since anyone told me I was doing something good, it's kinda hard to believe. I still feel like I am waiting for the ax to fall.

The weather is hot and I'm looking at a shell of a pool. That's the only time it really breaks my heart to see the pool go. But I know I would have trouble even getting into one now with my shoulder messed up.

Everyone keeps asking me what I did to my shoulder. I don't think I did anything particularly wrong; especially in light of the fact that my other shoulder is giving me mild problems. I'm afraid the cartilage and arthritis problems are the things that are setting me up for future failure. I just hope I can hang in there long enough to work for those quarters needed for Social Security!

I have an appointment with a surgeon on June 5 to get his opinion. Then on the 12th I will see Dr. Barr for an injection; this will be decided based on the surgeon appointment. On the 14th I'll touch base with my primary and figure all this out. In the meantime I see a nutritionist on May 30 and discuss with her some things Dr. Barr said. She basically told me to investigate how food affects arthritis. Preliminary research online shows me that some foods make it worse, some better. I guess I'll be doing some rearranging in my life's diet. The good news is that if I lose some weight that will be good for my joints in the long run, so I hope to get on track with this real soon.

Saturday Lindsey and I went to a few yard sales after dropping by the post office to check price and options for shipping to France. A fellow there has purchased a couple of Dan's military flashlights from Viet Nam. At the last yard sale we went to the people were moving to NC and had furniture for sale. Lindsey got a super deal on a wonderful hutch display cabinet for her Otagari victorian houses (cookie jars and salt shakers). She even got the man to deliver it for her since he has a trailer. We'll put some photos on the website. The cabinet comes this afternoon and she'll put it over at Big Mama's house since she'll be moving in over there this summer.

Needless to say, we didn't go to the strawberry festival. It was so hot yard saling that I finally took my sling off; it was wet anyway. I just couldn't see going to the festival and being that miserable. I mean, it's not like I ride anything, I get a hamburger and walk around to see some expensive crafts and squint in the sun getting a sunburn.

Every year I think it would be lovely to go somewhere else for Memorial Day. Someplace with lots of flags hanging from the light poles and lemonade on the corner, a cool dark building with humming fans blowing slight breezes would house an old timey ice cream parlour for cooling yourself down. Of course, there would be lots of smiling people who are actually glad you came to visit their town.

What a way to dream!
