Today begins the great "take down." Since we put up Christmas so soon after Thanksgiving, we're over it as soon as it's over.
And yes, we found the wreath hanger - as soon as we started putting things away. I removed some things off a table and looked inside the drawer to get the non-holiday items to put back where they were before Christmas. There it was, sitting right in plain sight. I have an excuse though -- I'd put the items on the table for Christmas and done all that moving around BEFORE we started looking for the wreath hanger, so it wasn't something that I'd have noticed. And yes, it was right by the front door, where we would use a wreath hanger.
Every year we play the "what's been left behind" game to see what turns up a few days after we've finished cleaning all the Christmas decorations from the house and put it all away in the attic. Sometimes it's a little tiny ornament that was in a remote corner of the bathroom, kind of off the beaten Christmas cheer path.
We'd noticed this year that we seemed to be "missing" a box or at least a lot of things hadn't turned up. Some, I'd thought that maybe I'd donated them away, since they didn't see daylight every year. But we definitely assumed that they must all be together. And they were.
Turns out that last year we'd put some of the "leftovers" in a popcorn popper box (we'd gotten a new one for Christmas last year). Danny, moving in high gear, put the box with the kitchen stuff that we don't use much. He didn't look inside and see that CHRISTMAS stuff goes with Christmas stuff! But we found everything (except what I really had donated).
