I just got surprised. I'm sitting here doing my blogs etc. and Danny peeps in the door and asks me if I'm smiling and things are going good. I give him a tentative "yes" because I'm not sure what's going to happen. I mean he doesn't ask me that too often.
So he comes through the door with the largest bunch of roses I've gotten in I don't know how long. And they are so beautiful! Deep, dark red. There are 17 flowers on the branch!
They are what I call "root roses." They were the original rose plant that was used to graft a better variety on to. The upper, better roses died and the bottom root continued to grow. They are prolific and look old-timey. As you can see as they open it gets whiter towards the inside. There is, sadly, no smell. I'm not sure if they have odor when they are in bud stage or not.
But this was a wonderful surprise nonetheless. Dan had put them into a decorated clear glass bottle. and I think they are terrific; isn't he the best?
