We've been tying up loose ends, or at least trying to. We tied up a big one yesterday. I sold the waterbed. It's gone. I'd put it on eBay before for $10, thinking it was a super bargain that someone wouldn't be able to pass up and it would be over and done with. No, Danny decided we should take it to a thrift store and donate it, using it for taxes next year. So I end my auction early, taking the small loss in fees and we pack up the bed and head to some of our favorite places. Salvation Army told us that donation centers don't accept waterbeds. We went ahead and checked a couple more places but it was the same answer. No. We brought our waterbed home and put it in the garage. It seems you can't give it away.
This past week I put it back online. $69.99 seemed like a good price; it's not too cheap and is about $50 less than what the others on there are selling for. It's local pick-up only, no shipping so it's gotta be someone fairly close. I had 2 "watchers" instantly. Watchers wait in the wings to see what happens; either they're interested in buying or have one of their own to sell and what to see what the market is like.
When it got down to having 12 hours and 8 minutes left I dropped my price to $62.99. At 12 hours or less you can't make any more changes to the ad. I just wanted to sweeten the pie a little in case either watcher was a customer-in-waiting. Sure enough, a lady in Elizabeth City had been looking for one for a while, usually finding them in California or someplace else too far away to do her any good.
As luck would have it my computer was being a bear and I couldn't get online Sunday so I never got her emails until Monday morning when everything was over and done with. Her mail sent before the auction ended requested info and said she wasn't comfortable not having an address or phone number; she didn't get it. But she sent her phone number and I called her before I went to work. She said she'd clicked a link and saw my picture and said I "looked honest," so she knew I was ok. She went ahead and bought it, paying instantly on PayPal.
We loaded her up last night and after giving me a hug headed back to NC. We gloried in our bedless garage. Someone actually paid us to haul it away!
