Finally Beautiful

Today was the first really great day we’ve had. Isn’t it funny how one day it’s cold as heck and the next it’s warm and wonderful? I was able to get outside for a little while. I’ve started my walking again; I didn’t get far but it’s a start. Guess the old metal hips are still cold!

I opened the greenhouse up. It was 90° in there! I repotted my little palm tree that Hubster gave me last year. It had totally outgrown it’s pot. I took the azaleas out that we never got around to planting last year. This year for sure, if they live that long. One of them had mealybugs all over it. The leaves were just about gone. When it was still cold I had moved it to an isolated corner, hoping it wouldn’t contaminate any of the other plants. Hubster sprayed both the azaleas for me  and they are not near each other in the yard.

I worked in the little garden area for a while. I wasn’t counting on my collarbones to be an issue. I’d forgotten about them ‘popping out’ not too long ago. It’s such a bummer to find another thing has just about been taken away from me. I used to be able to plant stuff all over the yard, and it’s not unheard of for me to move large trees and shrubs alone. But I guess those days are surely over. Yes, metal hips. Both.

I tried to get the shallow rooted ground cover weeds up. You can practically rake them out. I did what I could while I could and cleaned around the onions that made it through winter, and got some of the area around the two  Swiss Chard plants clean. I don’t want to move too much yet, it still might get cold again…. Murphy’s Law and all that. We also still have some fig starts that didn’t die. They are 6 inch sticks now but we have hope.

But mostly it just felt good to be outside in the fresh air. I could move again in my fav old flannel shirt and not all bundled up in a heavy coat. The sun warmed my skin. It was wonderful. And I need the Vitamin D.
