Today We Ride

Second day heading East, we really didn’t do anything special. Dan is such a wuss when it comes to visiting large cities or towns. We debated a couple of places, but our timeframe put us within reach of those destinations right when traffic would have been the worse. So we rode all day.2020 When we left our little Days Inn we realized that the perfect set of stone fencing was right out front, so Dan took a couple of photos.

As we came out of Salina KS we saw all these wind turbines, so large, so many, for so far. I was in awe! Therefore a lot of photos taken thru a fairly dirty windshield. Think tho, that the blades on these things are taller than my house! Surely my eyes bugged out with every hill we crossed.

Suddenly we creased a hill to find that a large expansive plain opened up and the terrain changed. We became mesmerized with the ribbons of road that lay ahead of us. At least there were trees around us now. Of course I took a picture, but again, couldn’t capture the distance.

We left the interstate after awhile, anxious to get on the smaller roads with less big trucks. The smaller roads are still so much like interstates, with 65mph speeds in most places. But we managed to catch up with a tractor or two. The photo shows a sign that has the word “scenic” on it. So wrong! Not when following that tractor!

The next photos show some silhouettes on hillsides as we went through some small towns. Plus I love taking, or attempting to take, pictures of barns.

If we hadn’t stopped for a picture along the way we would have missed the huge funeral procession going through a little town. Apparently this one was for a 13 year old boy who had died after a long bout of leukemia. I think the whole town was there. We stopped for gas right after and asked who it was at the same time.2042

We crossed several bridges and started noticing first, the dead trees in the middle of the water. Then at the next bridge we saw live trees in the middle of the water and realized that we were witnessing the results of a flood. I hope the water goes down before all those trees die too!

We passed a couple of Amish carts going down the road, but I was too late to get my camera out. They must have been on their way to something important because these carts were packed with whole families. I watched for miles, but alas, no more…only the sign saying “share the road.”

Uneventful, but ever homeward we go.
