Dreary Deary

It's just been so awfully dreary for what seems like forever. Today it's supposed to hit in the high 60s. Right now, before 8am, it's incredibly overcast, with clouds whipping by in the strong winds. Birds are struggling to fly. And I'm cold in the house. We've  tried to keep the heat down and wrap up more. With only 2 of us it seems silly to heat such a big space when putting on a nice, comfy sweater or sweatshirt makes such a world of difference.

We've been staying close to home for quite some time now, venturing out only to hit up the post office, or grocery store or doctor appointment. Some days we get to do all 3, la-de-da.

Dan had his first MRI on Monday. Since no one has been able to give him any answers as to why he has this pain between his shoulder blades and into a shoulder for over a year now, I suggested the MRI. Now he has to wait (again) for his appointment on Feb. 22 to get the results from Dr. Barr (she's always booked up).

Before they could do his MRI he had to have an x-ray done on his eyes, so it made our time there much longer than normal. During his work career he's had stuff fly up into his eyes. The Imaging Dept. wanted to be sure nothing was there...they explained that MRI magnets can actually pull metal out! OMG! Who knew this was possible? But they did the x-ray, and now the whole world knows he'has absolutely no metal fragments of any size or shape within his occular region. Yeah! Good to know!

I took my crochet with me and got over an hour's worth of work done. This time it was a purple and lavender loom scarf I'm making. I worked until I ran out of a color. I had delightful chats with several ladies also waiting. I always do when I am working on yarn projects. (By the way, I sold another handmade crochet hat last week! Go me!) You can read about the new scarf on my handmade LadieAnn blog.

We've been trying to use our indoor time to work on getting things ready for Dan's yard sale (he's wanted to do one for a year now). The garage is an organized disaster zone, with it's aisles of crap waiting to be fluffed and priced and, eventually, shoved out the door to the hoards of waiting customers with their dollars and quarters. Speaking of hoards, I keep telling him this is how hoarders start...crap and more crap!

This month we're experimenting with Cabana Threads as a separate site. We have had all these shirts in my thrift store, Eccentric Thrifter, for about 6 months. We've designed the site, bought the name, and uploaded over 70 Hawaiian shirts with descriptions and photos. We hooked up to Google and await the first sale. On one hand I don't think the shirts belong in a thrift store and should have their own specialty store; but on the other hand this has doubled my work. I have no hope that Dan (the true instigator) will ever commit to taking care of it alone. I keep telling him there is more to this than browsing thru thrift stores and buying a shirt to sell! We'll see how it goes.

Today is Wednesday and at Salvation Army stores it is half price day on clothes. I think, since it's rainy we're heading out shortly to see if we find that elusive rare collectible Hawaiian shirt someone casually tossed aside. Their lost is our gain (maybe). I'm just good with lunch out and seeing new faces for a change!
