It was a Very Dark Night

We had an interesting Happy Hour this week. The electricity went out! Here we were, about 15 of us all hanging out around the food table, chatting, eating, laughing, having a great time when suddenly we were in the dark.

Even though the lights had flickered out and come back quickly a short time earlier, no one had really thought to bring a flashlight or be prepared if it happened again. The odds were in favor of lights going out again anyway...a huge line of storms with damaging winds had crossed the country and we had been getting our share all day and into the night. Someone ran to a vehicle and produced a flashlight. Then we were able to see enough to find candles.

The lights remained off until 8pm, so we had a very cozy feeling evening among friends. We always have a cozy feeling but the darkness was a different touch. We had a birthday girl that night and a cake so it turned out to be rather a special event all around.

I'm delighted to say that Daddy was able to come out for a short while. It's been several weeks since he began fighting this pneumonia of his. I think it really did him some good too. The next day, Saturday, he went out to the shop for a time with the boys. It's good to see him riding his Honda again. But at this point it does take the starch out of him and the goes back for another nap soon after. Warmer weather will surely be a good thing if it ever gets here.

I'm still working on getting files put back on my new ZT Reliant Computer...I will be sorting and fixing for a while to come, I'm afraid. My learning curve is still rather steep, but I am finding that I love a lot of changes on here.

We went back to our old bed, removing the tiny full-size mattress from on top of our Califonia King. We definitely notice a difference again, which confirms that pretty soon we'll be 'mattress shopping.'

We took Mom over to Charity Methodist Church yesterday evening to pick up 4 roast chicken dinners for summer. She wouldn't get out, but waiting while we went in. I guess it was just as well...there weren't very many people over there - we'd arrived when they opened the doors. But I will add that the dinner was really good!! Thanks Mom!
