From Now On, It Goes

From now on, my camera goes with me. I was so mad this morning. At the same time I was so excited all I could say was “OMG!” over and over.
We were headed out around 8:30 this morning, trying to beat the heat and get an early start to our grocery shopping and thrift store hunting. We had stopped by Mom & Dad’s for a minute to drop something off. Had we not stopped we would have missed it entirely….
We saw a BEAR!!!!!!
We were chatting, looking over the corn struggling in the heat and came to a patch that was higher than the rest. I guess it was a good  place,  because all of a sudden we could hardly believe our eyes! Sticking out of the corn was a huge black object. You almost had to do a double-take, before it registered!
He looked just like Yogi Bear, except he was huge (I’m talking horns, if you know what I mean ),  coal black; bright eyes shining and his little ears sticking out on each side. He never moved a muscle, just stared straight ahead, as if he were getting his bearings (no pun intended) before crossing the road.
He had to be standing up. He looked to be tall at Danny at least. We could see a good 2 feet of him over the corn, including his shoulders and broad thick neck. Oh, it was wonderful!
OMG It was like Grand Central out there too… we never quite stopped, just slowly rolled by before we realized. We went to Clara Belle’s lane to turn around, Another truck came from the same  direction we’d been; he must not have seen the bear – he was booking along like nothing unusual. We waited for a dump truck to pass, headed towards NC. It seemed to take forever before we could get back on the road.
I didn’t have my camera and He had forgotten the cellphone. We couldn’t even call Mom & Dad to tell them. Of course, there was no bear when we went back, slowly this time. Then we steamed ahead  I got out to tell the folks, while he went to get everything we’d forgotten.
Great, they aren’t around…but I hollered anyway. Dad yelled back and I yelled again – WE SAW A BEAR! He’s a little hard of hearing but I’m sure he heard me then. My excitement was palpable. He called for Mom and I told my tale.
So be on the lookout as your coming up Blackwater Road. You never know what you might see. And always bring your camera – same reason!
