Life's A Journey

Ever feel like the world is overwhelming and crashing in on you? Things have been somber for me lately, like I can't quite get my motor started, or I have both feet in one hole. There's any number of reasons for my "down-in-the-dumps" feelings, from watching political craziness on TV to worrying about playing piano at church or why my dog scratches so much. It doesn't have to make real sense; it just is what it is! And sometimes it just gets to be too much.

Last night, in a dream I was reminded of "Desiderata." My first encounter with the 1927 poem by Max Ehrmann was back in the early 1970s when it appeared in Readers Digest. I cut it out and kept it for a very long time (I still think it's around here somewhere).

I think if everyone would give heed to the words of Desiderata the world would be a very different place. There's too much chaos in the world, too much sadness. People are lost, looking for something elusive that they don't really understand themselves, something to fill the void, ease the pain, heal the anger.  Hurting others by belittling, bullying, scamming, yelling and screaming, hitting and beating, shooting, stabbing, drinking, drugging... none of it ever helps.

There is only One who can help. Jesus.

Listen to Desiderata and start your journey.
I feel better already.
