New Set-Up

Melissa was so kind as to solve my problem about getting another computer so I could see my old and new genealogy files at the same time. I was thinking I'd have to go to the thrift store and buy a tower, but she reminded me that her old Windows 98 workhorse was still in her bedroom here at home.

This afternoon Danny helped me get the computer set up on my desk next to my regular computer. It's a bit confusing to remember which mouse I'm supposed to use at any given time, but I guess gradually, I'll get there. computer 001So far I've run a spyware program because I remember Melissa had had several problems in the past, and right now,  I'm defragging the files. As you can see there are a lot of white "holes" in the filing system. Defrag puts them back in order. This system is so old I can hardly remember where everything is - it's so different from the way things are now on our XPs and Vistas!
So now I will be able to do clean up of my files.
The other day I went back thru some old emails and saw a thank you link from Acer, from when I registered my new monitor. I was given a selection of really nice programs of which I could choose 5 to download. Most of these were $35-$50 market price. I picked out several that were working with photos and graphics and am now testing to see if any are better than what I already had. Morpheus Photo Morpher is really kinda neat. You can take 2 photos and combine them so they blend from one to the other. Not sure what I'll do with it, but I enjoy playing with it. I also got Personal Photo Manager Deluxe to try. It is similar to Windows Live Photo Gallery and Picasa. So far with all these photo programs and all their updated bells and whistles (that I like), I still go back to my ever present PaperPort. It works so much like Windows Explorer and most of the other programs sort by date and category and crap like that. None of the programs I get ever recognize a camera so I always have to use the standard wizard. But I know you love getting these little photos, so I'll keep trying to get a really good program.
