The Orange Sherbet

Here is an in progress photo of my little hat. Of course, sitting upside down it looks like a bowl. Orange hat 001 I found this wonderful little skein of soft yarn in tan, pink and white at a thrift store and just had to see if I could make a child’s hat. There wasn’t enough to do anything larger. The yarn is so soft and fuzzy on one side that it blends all the colors and I simply think about the orange sherbet my grandmother used to love so much.
“Surely,” you say, “that can’t be hard.”

But I have always made larger hats, using my own head as the model. This, as my first attempt in child-size, has been a challenge for me. I crochet at work (no, we’re never busy) while watching Rachel Ray and the View 4 days a week. I’m going real slow, mostly because I’m unsure of what I’ll do when I’m finished with this and because I’ve never used this small C hook before. Plus it’s starting to get too warm to cover yourself with yarn.

This is also my first time using triple crochet on a hat. I’m alternating rows with a row of single crochet between. It’s coming up nicely, I just hope I get the sizing right.

I’ve thought about getting my wonderful old Patty PlayPal doll out and using her as my resident child, now that my own two daughters have left the nest. What do you think?! Would it work?! I’ll post a photo when I get to that point!
