Half Double Triple

I had one skein of pink yarn sitting on the shelf. I wasn't even sure if it was a whole skein. I'd bought it at the thrift store (of course) and it didn't even have a paper sleeve on it. The only thing I know is that it's acrylic.

Anyway, I'm not into pink hats too much, at least not that color pink. So I ended up starting another lap blanket for the car. Yeah, pink is so much more not offensive if it's keeping you warm in a cold car.

So I've added 2 skeins of gray and 2 skeins of black to my lovely little Pepto Bismal yarn and you know what? It's not turning out half bad! I was working on it yesterday while waiting for Hubster at his therapy session and several people asked what I was making and commented about how much they liked the colors. Well, that's reassuring!

I got a lot done yesterday from when I took the first photo. I'm just hoping I have enough pink to double what you see here. I've thought about possibly adding a row of white between sections and maybe doing white on the outside, just to give the thing a chance to be a bit bigger. What do you think? Yeah or Nay?

Or I might just break bad and see if I can match the pink up with some new yarn at the store... I could maybe get lucky.

This is a new stitch for me. I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone talk about doing this. Surely somewhere in the world somebody has done it.

I start by doing the beginning of a half-double crochet. I pull through the first 2 loops like normal but then I just go back in the hole and do a triple crochet, pulling through two loops 3 times. the only time I throw the yarn over is in the very beginning when starting the half-double crochet. There's no chain between stitches either. I've tried to eliminate holes (when you're in a cold car you don't want cold air leaking in).
