Mat Attack

Oh, what a tangled web we weave, especially when you dismantle your crocheted plastic bag homeless mat, or at least part of it. It was sadly turning into a triangle shape because I'd been missing the incredibly tiny last stitches at the end of each row.

On Tuesday, when we had show-and-tell updates at our Crochet Club meeting I could really tell how screwed up my project was going when laying on the white table. My, oh my! It was so bad.

At home I folded it carefully and found the last reasonable area where the side met fairly decently (believe me, nothing is actually squared on this project). I pulled a piece of purple yarn through the side to mark where I needed to stop removing and started yanking out the double-crocheted plastic.

I must have removed about 15 rows or better! With my foot I pushed it all together into a big pile about 6-7 inches high and over 12 inches wide, and then started crocheting it all back again. This time I was very careful to do those last itty-bitty holes on each row end. It took me a couple of full half-days (who can crochet all day, really!?) to get it done, finishing yesterday evening. Last night my back muscles seized up on one side, which ibuprofen and a heating pad fixed nicely.

While my mat will never be beautiful or lined up properly I have the satisfaction of knowing I tried my best, even if it took several tries!
