Back Out

We were all gung-ho yesterday. It was nice outside and Danny was going to help me in the yard. The first thing I asked him to do was to empty the wheelbarrow full of leaves and such out to the pile in the woods. When he got back I was going to put a few more little piles in and then go from there.

He's coming back with his empty barrow saying, "you're not gonna believe this! I just pulled my back again!" Oh, no! and crapola! all at the same time. He's hurting and there goes the day. Mr. Hardhead said he'd be ok and started to reach for a cinderblock left over from the pool deck. OH NO YOU DON'T! I sent him out to the chair at the edge of the woods and told him to just rest his back a few minutes and allow himself the luxury of doing nothing. I told him, "Don't even think about what you think needs to be done; just enjoy the day."

I watched him out of the corner of my eye as I continued some easy weeding. He looked more uncomfortable from just sitting than from his back. True to form, after about 10 minutes here he came "all better." Against my better judgement he went ahead and moved several cinderblocks from my path. Then he decided he'd heard enough (from me) and we both headed indoors. I was tired too.

Dr. Barr had shown us what to do when his back went out. I had even taken my camera and made a little video of her fixing him. After a brief rest we went to the computer and refreshed our memories on the procedure. I worked on him a couple of times and he seemed better.

Maybe he would have been better if he hadn't decided he was "cured" and gone up in the attic. Later on, I went to see what he was up to. He'd promised not to do more than sit on the floor and put a couple of wires together for the ceiling fan. Right. He'd been crawling around on all fours pushing and pulling needed supplies from one side to another; oh, and don't forget moving the largest trunk we own with a tv on top of it. Sheepishly he stated he couldn't remember how things were configured and needed to see what had done with the cable service on that side of the room. Sure.

That afternoon Lindsey called saying she was bringing one out with her. We met Wes, a 22 year old Navy guy she met at Q-Masters. He was a very nice, rather handsome and easy going guy from TX. In addition to doing something in navigation he was on the search and rescue team. While he waited for Lindsey Wes and Danny and I chatted in the kitchen. Danny and Wes got along famously, discussing boat motors and military stuff; I almost got bored. Wes was a delight to be with; I enjoyed hearing some of his stories of rescues and places he's been. His ship is leaving again in late fall.

Today is Sunday. So far Danny has spent all day lying in bed with the heating pad. I have done the "procedure" on him again and this time he is doing what he should have done yesterday... staying off of it. Doing the Procedure made me hurt my knee, hitting it against the side of the bed rail. So I've had ice on it. We've been watching old movies.

I went to Sunday School this morning, first time in a long time. Larry is a good teacher and the class jumped in for some discussion. Maybe going to SS is the answer to which service to attend.

I heard a commotion in the next room when the older class was letting out. I had a funny feeling and I was right. Mom had caught her foot and fallen. She said she was ok and seemed to be. Like I've told her before, no one plans to have an accident. She can't just keep saying I'll be alright. She needs to adjust just a little to make darn sure she doesn't end up in a hospital. Goodness knows we don't want any more of that!!!

Tomorrow it's x-rays and test to see what nerves are being done what to. Good luck to me!

You know, it never did rain.
