Saturday we had our yard sale - the first ever at our home! We usually don't have enough traffic for such a venture. We weren't overrun with visitors, but did have more than I'd expected. We had nice items and after Danny had cleaned out the building and shop we had plenty of crapola from which to choose. Lynne and Randy put out quite a bit of stuff.
We didn't become independently wealthy or anything; probably enough to take ourselves out to a steak dinner. I guess the best part was that we had a lot of fun doing it. It was way too much work for so little monetary return, but the time spent with my sister-in-law was great. Randy and Danny went off for a while to another sale down the street. I know Danny came back with 2 items that he was very very pleased about.
We had scheduled a Salvation Army truck to pick up our old dining room table and chairs along with 2 boxes; and were supposed to arrive before 10am. We'd hoped they would wait until after 12. Boy, did they ever! The two guys who showed up said they were definately not familliar with the country, being from town. I got the picture that they spent quite a while lost. In fact when we did see the truck coming down the road, we all hollered. We hollered more as we watched them drive right on by. This was around 2pm. In the meantime Lynne and I were starting to get burned by the sun and were anxious to get all the loose ends tied up and ourselves back in some cool air conditioning.
Anyway, by the time the truck got there we were all tired and drained. Randy and Lynne had been sorting their items into "Go" and "Keep" piles. We all assumed that, if the truck had room. they could haul away our rejected goodies. It turned out that the drivers do not carry donation receipts except for those who call in and request the truck. Needless to say, it was quite a let down. Randy didn't want to just give their stuff away without a receipt (I don't blame them). So our stuff was loaded on the truck; the Doziers' stuff was loaded in their SUV.
We did manage to console ourselves with a quick trip to the old mimosa tree out back. There we sat in the hammock swing chair and the gramma swing and enjoyed the wonderful breeze and the just budded out aroma and sweetness that filled the air. We dreamed of smoothies; who knows - we may forego another yard sale next time and just have a smoothie party instead!
