Yesterday was interesting to say the least. I went out to the building before dawn, before it rained. At least the deck was just starting to be "dotted" with drops. I remember hearing it rain later on. Unknown to me the temperature dropped drastically and all that rain froze into a sheet of ice across the deck. At about 7am I opened the door to go back into the house. Lo, and behold, there's no way I can walk across there to the back door!!! I saw Danny and flashed the light at him and then called him on the phone (yes, we can call ourselves on our phone). I told him where the carpet runner was and he grabbed those and two throw rugs and came and rescued me.
I wasn't the only one who was surprised by the freak weather event yesterday morning. There were accidents everywhere and parts of several roads were closed. Pungo Ferry Bridge was closed - could you imagine one of those big grain trucks or a dump truck sliding off that thing (assuming it ever got up on top of it)?!
They closed Ferrell Parkway after a man, who was standing with his cellphone with 911 after his car slide off the road. Another car slide into him, killing him. It was so sad to think that he was ok after his own accident. I have thought about what his family must be going through today.
By 9:30 everything was back to normal, temperatures rose into the 50°s. So I went to my exercise place. Darn if they didn't have a sign on the door "2 Hour Opening Delay." So I had 40 minutes to kill. I did what every good exerciser does. I went to the Wendy's in the parking lot and had biscuits and sausage gravy. It was good, but only killed 10 minutes. Finally the girl gets there who helps the owner who couldn't come because they'd closed the Centerville Bridge. Since it was later than I'd thought I'd have been I only did 1 curcuit of exercise before heading back home. We were waiting for FedEx to try a delivery again and I didn't want to miss him.
I stopped by Mom's to fix something on the computer and they were having lunch. So I ate a little and worked on the computer. By the time Mom and I had proofed this long document it was time for me to leave to go get an MRI of my neck. So she went with me.
Arriving at Kempsville imagine place by Leigh I thought I might not be able to get the MRI. As soon as I lay down my arm started tingling intensely. No way could I last 25 minutes. I wasn't lasting 1 minute. The girl could lift my head about ½" inch. It proved to be just enough, that and a lot of prayers. My arm felt hot and tingled mildly in the upper arm; prayer kept it from going towards my hand. I sang hymns in my head and lay as still as a mouse with my eyes closed in the enclosure. Finally it was over - Hallalujah! My upper arm felt stiff but otherwise I'd "done good."
Next stop the hosital for an x-ray. Only a 35 minute wait. What can you do? You wait.
When that was over Mom and I went around the corner to a thrift store. She'd wanted to stop at a couple before we headed to Walmart or somewhere like that. She looked at winter coats, I spotted a couple more purses for my Mixed Bag store. At the next thrift store we didn't find out until we walked back to the car that the keys were still inside. Oh crap! Mom called AAA and I called Danny. AAA needed the name of the cross street (which we scrutinized upon leaving); we didn't know it so Danny ended up leaving work early, going home, and riding 30 minutes to be our rescuing hero.
We didn't ever get to Walmart or Target. But while we waited for our hero with keys Mom walked around the store again, in case she'd missed anything. She came back with a Bible Trivia game. Opening it we started playing and by the time Dan got there we had 2 teams going with the workers at Goodwill. It was fun and helped relieve the stress. Do you know what 2 books of the Bible begin with G?
We also saw my good friend Joyce Sherman there. I hadn't seen her in a couple of years. We keep in touch with a Christmas card and that's it. Before leaving she brought me a stool to sit on (Mom had a chair).
The Goodwill people were so nice. AAA had called us back on their cell phone which they brought out of the office for us, another lady offered to make us cups of tea, and of course the Bible players were fun to be with. One guy said he'd been to Bible School for 6 years. No wonder they were good!
I apologized to Mom for keeping her out so late and she clapped me on the shoulder and said it was a great adventure. And at least she'd gotten out of the house for a while.
May all your adventures be safe ones!
