Our lettuce is up now, not much bigger than the end of my little finger, but the rows are distinctive enough to remember they’re there and try to avoid stepping on them. And my lovely little Sugar Snap Peas are jammin’ and shining in the sunlight!
We finished up making the climbing fence out of the Nandina limbs. It turned out pretty good, if you like rustic, that is. I think some runny thing will be planted next to it to see if it actually works. Anything would be good considering how far the squash went into the yard last year! But it remains to see if it will stand the test of actual use.
I have a pair of Wrens that keep scoping out the greenhouse as a nesting site. I always worry that if they nest in there and we close the door for a storm then the babies will suffocate in the heat and the parents can’t get in as well.
So the light bulb went off over my head. Dan had already glued the piece that broke off of the little Williamsburg nesting bottle back together from when it fell off the shop in a storm. We decided not to put it back there; the birds never used it. We have mounted it on the corner of the greenhouse. Hopefully it will meet the Wren requirements and become the better choice for a home.
