Vacation 2010 Days 6-7 Weekend

SATURDAY -- I haven’t been able to post because I’m sharing my father-in-law’s internet. So I’ll try to get you up to speed. We’re not doing a lot of traveling like we have in the past when visiting, preferring to just let father and son spend some quality time at home.

Yesterday (Saturday) we went to Panera’s for breakfast where I had a big fat carrot muffin and hot tea. My in-laws go there 3 times a week and I was introduced to several of the other “Regulars;” it was like old home week. Apparently many people in this neck of the woods have routines and for those in the loop it works well. The Jordans take a local paper, another couple bring a different paper and they exchange; sometimes if one couple leaves before the other it is very possible that said paper will be left with the Panera staff with instructions to “give it to them when they get here.” Everybody knows everybody.

After breakfast and a brief interlude we headed over to the Loveland Sculpture Gardens to walk off our meal. The weather was perfect, the sculptures beautiful. Dan had the camera so credit goes to him for taking all the photos (I didn’t know he was taking everything out there). But they’re here so rather than delete, I share.

Since I am currently dealing with being in the overweight category and in an altitude that is unfriendly to me I rested up for a while after our walk and our tuna lunch. We were going out for a super nice evening under the big blue sky!

We packed up our lawn chairs and cooler, grabbed our hats and sunglasses and went to Walker Mfg. where they make lawnmowers. Out behind the building about 1000 people gathered for an evening of hymn singing and just simply glorifying God. It was so neat! They handed out songbooks with 25 hymns, most selected by the attendees from last year’s event. Unfortunately we forget the camera so no photos.

We hadn’t planned supper, thinking to ‘play it by ear’ when the time came. We weren’t too hungry, but stopped by Charlies, the equivilent of our Zero’s for subs. They were cleaning the place and all the chairs were on top of tables for the mopper. But they motioned us in and we kindly took our goods home to eat, even tho they offered for us to stay. Hey, it was Saturday night; they needed a weekend too!

After that we ate a lovely late sub supper and retired to crash and burn.

SUNDAY - Today when Claude came out of his bedroom we both greeted him with “Happy Father’s Day” and big hugs. It’s the first time since we’ve been married that we were able to be here to celebrate with him. In that vein, it’s been a very good bonding time for the both of them.

After toast breakfast Dan and I decided to walk around the neighborhood. Everything is in bloom and the neat little house are so pretty. We planned to just walk about 20 minutes, if I held out that long. Did you know it’s possible to get lost out here?! We ended up walking almost as far as the Penera Bread store (gosh, maybe we’ll walk with them tomorrow)! We went by the fire station, then thinking we’d circle around ended up in another neighborhood. OMG! Houses just are everywhere! Dan’s thinking we’re going to be in someone’s back yard and they’ll call the police. I was so tired and hurting from walking I said, “let them; maybe they’ll give us a ride back.” We found a rock nature trail (even harder to walk on) and eventually crossed a stream and two bridges to find ourselves at the back of that same fire station. Good deal! Hanging in there a little longer we finally wormed our way back after 40 minutes. I’m so proud of myself for not collapsing!!

We cooled of and changed clothes and at 11am went to a Methodist church service. They had a visiting preacher so it didn’t last too long. In fact we got out 45 minutes too early to meet Dan’s cousin and his wife for lunch. So back to the house where I put my tennis shoes back on and we regrouped. We had Italian lunch at Biaggio’s. It was great and afterwards all of us came back for a long overdue visit. Cousin Jack is having knee surgery tomorrow morning and we wished him well; I know what kind of mess he’s getting into.

Full, tired, and ready for a nap, we’ve said we’re only going to have crackers for supper – seems like all we do is eat! But this is my story and I’m sticking to it. Not sure when we’re heading out of here yet. But it should be soon! Miss everyone and see ya soon.
PS. Happy Father’s Day, Daddy!
